Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnettరాసిన పుస్తకాలని నేను మొదట వుంచుతాను.A Little Princessలో నిబ్బరం,అభిజాత్యం అబ్బురమనిపిస్తాయి.

తర్వాతLouisa May Alcott . . Eight Cousins,An Old Fashioned Girl,Under the Lilacs

The House of Arden, The Railway Children తర్వాత Kate Douglas Wiggin రాసిన  Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm చెప్పుకోదగినది .ఈవిడదే Mother Carey’s Chickens కూడా మంచి నవల .Jules Verne మంచి సైన్స్ ఫిక్షన్  రాసాడు .20,000 Leagues under the Sea ,The Mysterious Island  ప్రసిద్ఢి  వున్న Around the World in Eighty Day బాగున్నంతా బాగుంటాయి .

Johann David Wyss  ది The Swiss Family Robinson  ఎన్నిసార్లు చదివినా బాగుంటుంది .Robert Louis Stevenson, Thomas Hughes మొదలయినవారు ప్రత్యేకించి  అబ్బాయిలకి  నచ్చే పుస్తకాలు రాసారు.

“The world doesn’t function according to me!” is the only complaint several adolescents have. They are slowly coming out of parent’s scaffolding and no one in the world outside is kind enough to let them have their wishes any more as it pleases with kids. This is what makes adolescence a tricky age to deal with.

In such an age of confusion.these books introduced me to the ways of the world.. how people have shades of grey in them, how to deal with difficult people. how to build up relationships that last, how to be your own self even at times of doubt and how people admire you for that very quality.. and lots and lots more.

They taught me all these lessons with an air of positivity that helped me to look at the world from a plane above.. helped me know the vitality of human relations and how important it is to forgive..
In fact they are the only things that matter in life, they are the ones that matter the most in adulthood.

They taught me that being a child and an adult are not mutually exclusive things.. they helped me cherish the pure, childlike feelings, telling me that you never need to forget them, while growing into a full fledged adult…

Go on.. these aren’t just for children, they are for anyone who wishes to unlearn things and start over fresh.. The treasure is just a click away..

    • I liked your last line the most. Yeah I agree with you(Thumbs up!)…

Honestly, many of the books cited above have made my fingers itch. However, read some I have, and to say that they have made me think would be a gross understatement.
Frances Burnett’s A secret garden and A little princess are quite inspiring. But not entertaining enough. I have found Little lord Fauntleroy rather cute and it made me savor the whole idea of a well-behaved child. Being an adventure lover myself, ‘Around the world in eighty days’ and ‘The mysterious island’ have amazed me and made me quite the Vernian. Alcott’s ‘Little women’ is sweet. I have also enjoyed the plot of ‘Treasure Island’ by R.L Stevenson, but I was quite offended by the gore in it.
As the author persists on books with morals, I cannot help but mention some of my all-time favorites, Alice in wonderland, The wonderful wizard of oz and The lorax.

i still remember how much i enjoyed reading pollyanna !
and little woman is one of my all time favorites. ^_^

  • Thanks for the wonderful piece of writing.

If ever I regret anything in my life, its only not having read these books early.
I have read a few of those you mentioned but I can understand the actual intention with which you have so passionately expressed your concerns here.

Yes I truly agree that Teenage is the most wonderful time in everybody’s life but if left unchecked it could also be the scariest period. I remember being a kid, loaded with thoughts almost all the time, but never knew how to channelize them. These books came as as a boon to people like me.

In spite of being brought up in a healthy environment, children at that age tend to go through THE period where there is a need to keep a close watch on them. Unfortunately keeping a watch is easily considered as intending something wrong for others but its actually stopping them from doing it to themselves.
Its observing the the way they are building their character, thought process, the way they handle a situation and so on, which will later play a key role in facing their future.

This is when these books come in handy and kids will unknowingly try to adhere to the benchmarks the characters in them keep. It always feels good to see yourself in the character you liked the most and I feel the books have that potential better than the media many are after these days(only those who read can understand that a book always has better impact than the movie taken from its story).

I hope and sincerely wish that the kids in the coming generations at least have a better childhood with these wonderful mates.

PS: Thanks so much for introducing me to the books. ‘The Little Princess’ is still my favorite and I guess it will always remain..:)
